If you're stuck for tools, the later part of this video shows how to repair stripped threads (thinking sump plug here). I was taught this trick probably 30 years ago but might be useful to someone else in a pickle.

Thanks CovKid, have just been on a Youtube journey with with this guy, the Dyson hairdryer teardown is hilarious!
Some herbert has put a wonky helicoil in my sump, therefore plug does not seat squarely.
Only have a tiny drip so probably will leave for now but I like the idea of heavy gauge copper wire for washer, that and a bit goo will hopefully seal what is an othewise dry engine.....

Yes, a fairly blunt approach including keeping a plonker in a vice, but a knowledgable engineer with some absorbing videos.
