Constant breeze from air vents.

Post by Swampy »

Evening all.

A query on how big a job this might be....

As I drive along the air vents in the cab are constantly blowing out. The fans not on, of course, it's like the flaps are stuck open.

I get the breeze out of every vent in the cab - windscreen & those vents either side of the dashboard.

Nothing I try to the control knobs seem to change the amount of breeze coming out.

With no experience of these things I can only think to check that the flaps that close these vents off are working properly.

Is this a dashboard-out job, or can I get to the bits I need from the front grill? I'm guessing that's where the breeze is coming from in the first place!

The van's a 1985 1.6TD Carthago camper, if that's of any help.

Think your hot/cold cable or flap is off/burst! Do you hear a thud when you switch the fan on full?
More is less, stay pure, stay poor.

Oh check the cables at the control end before you start dismantling the dash! Or just block up that fly mesh behind your grill!

Hope this is of help!

Thanks for that. I'll check the control panel first. I certainly do not hear any thud when I put the fan on full. A fair bit of squeaking, mind, but no thud! :)

I need to run the van every day, so if I can avoid dismantling the cab to muck about with the air vents, that's a plus!

take off the centre panel infront of the gearshift, and stick your fingers up the passenger side air to floor vent, the flat is there, you should be able to feel it move it up at the same time as moving the slider on the dash control panel, if not the cable isnt working, investigate!
you dont need to take the dash out to do any of this.

Wow!, that's handy! I'll print off those diagrams & see if I can have a poke around tomorrow lunchtime.

I'll let you know what I find out.
