Sun canopy help needed.

Post by chewbacca »

Hi guys.

I'm thinking about a sun canopy for this coming summer.
Currently I like the look of the ARB from campervan culture.

Main problem I have is putting the bus away.
Mine is a tin top that lives in the garage. I'm more than a little worried the bus won't fit once a canopy if fitted.

So I guess the question is, how much height does a sun canopy add?

Thanks.

Don't know if this helps but l have a awning channel fixed to the side of my van and last year l got a kador strip sewed onto a 3m x 4 m tarp, use 3 collapsible tent poles and it makes a brilliant sun canopy and for not much cash,we both prefer it to the Khyam though not much use if it's raining!

I've got a fiammia F35 fitted to mine, I lift it on and off when required, mainly for day outs and one night stays, anything longer I use a driveaway awning

I can grab some pictures tomorrow night as I have it fitted at the moment

Thanks for the help guys. Any more info would be great.

I think I'm after something I can bolt on and leave in place. I don't really want to be messing about taking it on and off.

I've been a little put off the ARB tonight. The colour is awful!

I've also got a Fiamma F35 which I remove when it's not in use (they do get nicked, apparently). It is attached to the vehicle using brackets which clamp on to the roof gutter. I've got a pop-top roof, so there's plenty of clearance, but then my bus won't fit in a standard garage! Even with a tin-top, I would say that due to the camber on the roof, an awning probably doesn't add anything to the overall height of the vehicle.

I hope that's the case with the height.
I suppose if I get the height the awning sits above the gutter, I could make a cardboard template and try it.

I have a F35 fitted to my tintop and it does not add to the height of the vehicle because of the shape of the roof, it comes off really easily anyway, there are only two bolts holding it to the rain gutter fixing brackets. The only drawback with this particular awning is that it needs two people to roll it up easily, it can be done with one but it is lot easier with two.
