Camshaft renewal

Post by Rusty blue bottom »

Hey peeps
I am replacing a damaged camshaft and I have bought a new one I am going to change the cogs over from the old one to the new.
I have the rivets or bolts that I need to grind off
Does anyone know what I can replace them with as this was unforeseen.
Thanks in advance for any info
Johnny

Not many Aircooled experts about so get a pic up of the cam gear and rivets.

I managed to rivet a four stud WBX cam

My rebuilt WBX engine from (Engine re-builder supplied on request by PM) broke the crankcase when the camshaft gear rivets failed and the gear got caught up in the works or so I was told. I learned later that the correct modification is to replace the four rivets with high tensile bolts. The engine was repaired under warranty but only after a couple of months due it was said to a shortage of suitable crank cases.
Hope this info is useful.
