SE London T25 mechanic
Hi everyone. I'm based in Peckham, London SE15 and looking for a mechanic to work on my T25 engine.
Does anyone have a recommendation? I noticed Tony Hines name on another post, but hoping to find someone nearer
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Cheers
Jollyon

What work is requires Jollyon as it's possible it's something you can do yourself (otherwise it'll cost you a fortune to run one of these old girls)!!

When I had my first camper I used Tony Hines after seeing his name on here. He had my van for a while and then called saying he couldnt get a nut off and charged me something like £150 for trying. I've found it very hit and miss, mostly miss in S london. Worth travelling. What do you need doing?

What's wrong?
Might be a simple fix.!
These engines are very low tech.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm not very savvy When it comes to engine mechanics. I had a vw mechanic look over the van before I purchased. He said it might need the head gasket changing / looking at. Also two leaks that need checking. The price was reduced to cover what he said was around £1k of work.

Hi kevtherev. Cheers for your help. It's a 1989 westfalia with 1.6TD engine. Leaks seem to be in the engine bay where there's a good amount of oil over the engine itself and underneath which could be from the power steering I've been told.

Re: SE London T25 mechanic
Personally speaking I would have the engine and bay steam cleaned.
Then whoever looks for a leak will see it more clearly.
PAS leaks are usually straight forward as well.
The head gasket is pretty easy and you don't need a VW specialist to do it
Just a good reputable garage... That understand diesels.
Remember if you can't fix things yourself then at least supply the parts.
You can supply quality parts that otherwise might not get fitted by the garage and at least you know that they have if you supply them.
Always ask here first before anything, very often it is something very simple, and you don't need to have your pants pulled down every time something goes wrong.

You could swing by Blenheim Motors in Blenheim Grove. Not a VW specialist but I used to use them for servicing when I lived round the corner. My brother used to work in the body shop next door when it was called Long Life many years ago, Ian was a nice guy and knows his stuff. Otherwise I've used a couple of specialists but they are a bit further away. Jacks Garage in West London at least used to be really good and Darren at AirFix VW in Carshalton is worth a shout.
