seen a t25, need some advice

Post by hankmarvin »

well i've seen a van which looks pretty good for the money i think but need some advice on it, see what other people think.

http://www.gumtree.com/london/17/7577817.html

i have a little extra info also

"The van is plain diesel not turbo. It has 92000 miles. We had the van
serviced by a volkswagen mechanic near Windsor. Our van has some rust but very minor. On the whole it is in great condition inside and out.

let me know what you think.

cheers

If its as good as they say, go and buy it now cos at that price it will be gone soon, the advice on here is to buy for body work, mechanicals can be sorted, is it 1600 or 1900/? ! 1600 n/a is thought to be a bit underpowered, at the end of the day you can only compare it with other vans you have seen and their prices

:D Greetings Hank!
Well, it certainly looks nice, but 'tis only one picture.
One thing to ask yourself is : is this the type of van I want or am I just eager to get any van?
Personally I would say that if its not your style, wait, one will come along.
(One you have been "hankering" after  )
However, if it suits, then your past that hurdle and into mechanics and rust against price!
Good hunting chap, hope it works out. :D

well its a hightop and bodywork looks ok from this pics but cant really say either way yet.

ideally it would be a 1.6td, so its hard to know what to do, it seems a good price, and will the prices jump high come spring if i wait. hmmm very tricky

Looks good for £2500. Worth seeing in the flesh. Like ivor said go for body condition before mechanicals. Make a sensible offer and you may get it at a better price. Jeeeeez you even get the pots n pans :D

I've been looking for a good camper for over 2 months. Emailed and got info on this one too. I've looked at many saying 'a little rust' or 'cosmetic rust only' or 'rust has been sorted'... even had lots of detailed pics before driving many miles to view... and found it was not worth my time and money. If they say RUST, it usually not good. Getting it sorted and painted is expensive... 1000+ quid at minimum. It's almost impossible to get rid of completely. In a few years it's back and you spend more money. I'm assuming it's been repainted to cover fixed and hidden rust at least once already. 1.6 na diesel means underpowered and slow... 92k means it's been replaced or needs replaced. To put in a bigger better engine means both engine and tranny need replaced because engine is reved out at 60mph with stock 1/6 tranny. Not trying to put it down. It looks nice is one little picture and 86 is new enough to be a good builder if it really is as clean as it looks. :D

Keep looking and a good one will come your way... probably later then sooner, but you will find one.

Good Luck!

Sounds Ok from where I'm sitting, the non-turbo diesel might struggle a bit, but what the h=ll, it gives you more time to admire the scenery. If they are desperate to sell because they are going back to the land of the kangaroos, make him an offer, he can only say, ssstruth cobber you must be joking!

There's some good bargains to be had from the Ozzies returning to the fold.

90K sounds reasonable for a diesel engine, - mine's done 78K on a CU engine - unless it's been 'round the clock' check out the old MOTs for mileage confirmation.

Nice colour by the way!
