Electronic pumps are available to replace the mechanical ones. Cant be of any more help I'm affraid

Sounds like yo've a worn camshaft & push rod! If so" try a longer push rod. If your rod is worn it can reduce the stroke of the pump thus not pumping 100% fuel, This is more apparent at speed starving the cabs of fuel. Hope this is of some help!

Hi i have had this problem after fitting a new pump- CU engine- ( not sure if i needed to now). With mine when ever fuel has run out or i have disconnected fuel line i have to suck up the fuel to get to pump but then ok after a few craks of engine, don't know if this helps
