Overheating

Post by more speed »

2.1 MV Van works fine with normal driving but overheats when ticking over for a while.
The radiator fan kicks in when the temp dial reaches the led in the middle only happens when stood in traffic and then cuts in and out every few mins, until we get going again.

Any ideas on the process to follow to identify the problem.
The van is a syncro if that makes any difference.

Just to clarify for the op, the radiator fan is switched on and off by a thermal switch on the radiator, the temperature gauge is connected to a temperature sender on the thermostat housing, ie. the gauge and radiator fan operate independently of each other.

My 1.9dg 2wd van never did this it very rarely came on, just seemed odd that this one has always done it.
