1.6d Head Bolts.

Post by SplendiferousII »

I read on here that the cylinder head bolts for the 1.6d engine are stretch bolts and need to be changed as a matter of course during head gasket change.

I am just double checking this as the bolts I removed were simply M12 set bolts (threaded over the entite length) The only stretch bolts I have encountered in the past Vauxhaul I think, had a wasted section for the stretchy stretchy bit, The VW ones dont.

Thanks - Splend

I've just been having the same conversation over at the brickyard. It seems that there are 2 sorts - stretch and non stretch, but Bentleys isnt that clear as to which is which. I decided to get 'em anyway for £17 for the set its not worth worrying about screwing up the job.

And do a search for the angular tightening method if not sure, it`s been discussed before Xmas, detailed info on it :)
Keep it real.

Petrol engine in the Peter Russek manual for the T4 engine 1.9 uses non streech .Diesel engine 1.9 Uses streech bolts and are the same part number for the 1.6/td .Final torque is diffrent between the two types of bolts.
