how to get this thing off!
(1989 Joker Westy 1.6TD)
Dismantling the accelerator cable and almost out but this little nuisance attaches the cable to the chassis just before it goes through the back tunnel. It won't go through the tunnel and I have to pull the cable through to the choke end. I don't want to cut the cable cos I want to take it down to GSF to make sure I get the same cable and length back. Anyone done this before? I imagine you have to wrestle with the metal rim with a screwdriver and an hour of frustration (and can you get a new one anyway!!)

Why?
if you are replacing the cable leave the outer in place

Re: how to get this thing off!
That's the problem with the cable. The outer at the back end has been holed - either melted or rubbed and worn, and rusted up so the cable doesn't move. You can see the cable and its stiff. The whole back end has to come out and be replaced. Not even sure if you can get a replacement for this section but I'm sure I can make something work.

The outer only stays in place for the front section. The rear outer plus bracket are swapped out with the replacement cable. The cable grip on the accelerator pedal at the front should clamp on the ferrule not the cable itself.

Re: how to get this thing off!
according to the pic of the cable on Brickwerks the cable at the carb end has a thick end then a piece of cable with the concertina rubber and then a chunk of rubber grommets that attach to the engine (or the carb). I didn't realise that these grommets can be pulled out. Though when I think about it they must do cos the thick end cant be pulled through them. So how to get those grommets out of their housing. Do they just pull out? This is really my problem.

Re: how to get this thing off!
there's a c-clip that holds the outer cable firmly to the rubber grommet ,remove this clip & slide the out cable towards the front of the van that then allows you to crush the rubber grommet .

Pull the metal clip off (at top of pic) the inner bit will then go through the rubber bit

Re: how to get this thing off!
came off easy - remove the two round washers from either side then it pulls off. Its amazing how things seem really hard when you're tired after a hard struggle. And the next morning you do it easily. Thanx for the help though
