Some advice needed - fitting Volkswares bed

Post by Greendeck123 »

Hi guys, has anyone had any experience fitting a Volkswares bed to their t25. My bed is assembled and I need to get the thing fitted asap. The instructions are t2 specific and they might as well have sent a chipmunk to explain it for the info that's on there. And they don't reply to emails or pick the phone up.
There are two chunky bracket in the box labelled t25 brackets but I have no idea where they go.
It says about fitting a batten but don't know where that fixes either as I have quite a high floor.
Also I can't get the bed to lay flat unless I wind the bolts out so they wobble around. Very frustrating!
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

There's an installation video on their website.

The video I found on there is for assembling the bed. I just need some info about actually fixing it. Needs a raised platform in engine Bay Area etc apparently :s

I can help. I had a few issues when fitting mine. It does fit and I'll send you some pictures in the morning that will help. However, mine was full width and I found that the bolts that went through the floor came out inside a cross section piece which meant I couldn't get through nuts on. Ended up welding the bottom parts in.

The first picture shows how those funny brackets attach to the frame and the van. There are 2 and they aren't handed so look the same.

The second picture shows how we used bigger bolts bolted to a spreader plate that was welded in.

The third picture shows the raised platform you need to build so that when the bed is out it has something to rest on and therefore flush to form a bed.

Any use to you?

That's awesome mate, exactly what I needed. Mines a full width bed too but i was planning on just screwing the base to my flooring as opposed to through the floor pan of the van but I'll have a proper look when I come to getting the flooring back in the van. Really appreciate your help!!

Just one more thing, fitting these to a t25 do you still need to screw a batten to the vertical part of the bulkhead for the top of the backrest to sit on when the bed is flat? :?

I can't quite remember, however, I do belive that is for when fitting to a Bay window.

Once you have the seat/bed frame made up, hold it in place and mark where you think it will fix. Then fold it into a bed and position it on the marks and see if it hangs just over the top of the bulkhead (where it slopes down)

Definitely need 2 people to do this.

Once you are happy it is in the right place bolt it down. You will then be able to construct some sort of platform covering the rear part of the van. The top part of the bed will need to rest on this platform when made into a bed.

Does that make sense? I can send more pictures of mine if it helps.

There are many ways to get use from beneath this platform. I made mine hinged so I can lift it up and store stuff underneath (on top of the engine lid) others make drawers etc.

Yeah that makes sense. I'll have a go at getting it installed and if I have any problems I'll quiz you for photos of its not too much trouble. I think it'll be a trial and error scenario before I start drilling holes so I'll do what you suggested and offer it up and have a little play around :ok thanks again!
