Boot lid stuck

Post by Wesley »

Hi all,

anyone know how to fix a stuck boot lid? It locks and unlocks but won't pop open when button pushed in ?! The boot is operated separately with its own key as central locking is knackered for the boot. Occasionally it will just work and then it gets stuck again.

Many thanks for any help at all

Boot lid on what? If T25 tailgate you'll need to get door card off and take a gander.

Ha , yes just noticed that typo! Not the best on a keyboard I guess. :)

It's a t25 1989 Caravelle. It happens randomly and is very annoying when your trying to get all the camping gear out the boot.

Cheers

Inside the tailgate, there is a slider (operated by the CL acuator) that allows the button to operate the locking mechinism.
At one end of its travel the slider allows button to move the lock at the other the button does nothing unless the key is turned to the two O'clock position .
Sometimes the slider gets stuck between the two positions. Meaning the button misses the mechinisim.

Yes a similar has happened to mine a couple of times over time and I think it was caused by me somehow closing the door down while it was locked, got something caught in it or just somehow half cocked. I fix it by levering the catch gismo into the correct position with a meaty screwdriver then it closes and locks correctly.

Many thanks Tonytech for the advice- it sounds exactly like what is going wrong. Any easy way of fixing it?

Take the trim pannel off and move the slider over, If your CL isnt working you could secure the slider with a cable tie or a bit of wire.
Ive posted some CL fixes in the past, so if you want to try and repair it, have a search.
Also I have some pics of the insides of a CL motor.

Brilliant advice and pictures thanks - really helped.

Finally had sometime today and got it all fixed within 30 minutes.

Slider had got stuck as was mentioned- seems to be working fine now but it appears to be (as has been pointed out earlier ) if you take the key the wrong way to about 2 o'clock. Doesn't seem to like it and gets jammed. Sprayed some dw40 and hope it doesn't happen again. Don't fancy taking all the gear out through the slide door again!

thanks again all for the help.

WD40 likely to be short lived. Its not really a lubricant. Light machine oil like 3-in-one a better bet.
