Oil filter goes pop
My oil filter has gone pop. It's a 1.7diesel. I had to fix an engine mount not long ago so had to remove the oil cooler and associated pipework to get to it, but not sure if this is related. I fixed a leak at the base of the dipstick yesterday as oil was bubbling out, seal had perished. Its a brand new Bosch filter, but obviously an oil pressure issue. Any advice welcome. Does the oil cooler have to be seated a particular way?
Re: Oil filter goes pop
Speak the obvious but have you double checked part number on filter?
Have previously had the pressure relief valve in pick up has died/shat itself.

I got the oil filter from Just Kampers so assume it is the right one, it's a Bosch as well so hoped it was a good make. But have been I should go for a Mann filter.

Re: Oil filter goes pop
Going to change the pressure relief valve, are they easy to replace?
Re: Oil filter goes pop
Double check part number, they will split and fire oil a foot into the air- ask me how I know
Pressure relief valve is in bottom/pick up part of pump and not serviceable AFAIK.

Go on, how do you know
I'm going to replace the oil pump, just trying to find somewhere that sells them

Re: Oil filter goes pop
Lolza.
Without checking part number, I fitted wrong filter once in a Doka. Went like Versuviious.
Pressure relief valve is in the pick up part of pump, not sure if you can buy pick up on it's own. Only ever done one in ten years but it shows they can fail

Just goes to show always make sure you get the right parts.
On a different forum they say it's not serviceable so looks like a new pump

Re: Oil filter goes pop
Had this on my AAZ, as said it's the oil pressure relief valve in the pick up on the pump. New pump is the way to go.

Re: Oil filter goes pop
Either...just bad luck and the oil filter was faulty...or...oil pressure relief valve stuck not allowing access pressure (when cold) to bleed back in to the sump.

Re: Oil filter goes pop
It happened just after I set off so, like you say it was a cold engine.
Parts are ordered for a new oil pump, filter and sump gasket, so that's Saturdays entertainment sorted.
Is there anything else I could be checking while I have the sump off?

Re: Oil filter goes pop
Not sure why you would replace the oil pump...this is an 'EXCESS' pressure problem..issues with oil pumps are invariably around lack of oil pressure...of course it won't do any harm and I presume the relief valve will come as part of a new pump.

Re: Oil filter goes pop
I've been told that the pressure relief valve is in the pump and isn't serviceable. But if I have to remove the sump I might as well replace it as it's only £40 from Brickwerks
