newbie: child seating question
Hi All,
I'm picking up my first T25 next week having been a bug owner for quite some time.
I've been looking for options regarding fitting my littl'n's car seat in the back. It needs a 3 point belt to hold it in place and I want to be able to have a bed in there too.
The best looking option I have come across so far is the rock and roll bed with built in 3 point belts(either full or 3/4 width)
Does anyone else use child seats in their vans? or have any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks,
James

Hi, welcome to the forum.
You can fit three point belts into the rear. https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/rear-seatbelt-kit-t3.html
You can also fit isofix mounts.
We recently put a car seat into the back and had three point belts fitted. its a pain if you want to regularly roll the bed out because getting our seat in and out is fiddily against the side of the van. We are now considering fitting the ISOFix mounts.

Hey! thank you.
Those links are really useful i appreciate it.
What sort of seat/bed do you have installed in your van? The one I'm picking up next week is more or less a blank canvas.

I have got a full width caravellle style rock and roll bed.
You want to be careful if you are getting a rock and roll bed you get a proper metal framed one. There are several conversations on here about them, it might be worth having a search!

Hey
Yes I've been reading through some of the conversations I could find on the subject in parallel to this.
The ones I was looking at were metal framed. It's something I don't want to skimp on.

I've heard the Rusty Lee beds are good. I got mine from Volkswares and it's been OK. As long as it's fitted correctly. Then buy the belts from Brickwerks and the spreader plates to bolt the belts to the van.

I went for a Rusty Lee full width. Works out expensive when you factor in the proper seatbelt kits from brickwerks as well.

Re: newbie: child seating question
Thanks guys, I saw the M1 ones last night while i was searching. They look alright.
And like you say as long as the belt mounts are sturdy and safe it'd save buying them separate.
Need to find someone who's got an M1 with belts and see what they think.

The 3 point belt looks good from Brickwerks they have a fitting guide on there too.
Do people who have this fitted recommend it?
Re: newbie: child seating question
Hi
A couple of years ago I fitted a Bluebird Customs 3/4 width rock and roll bed, and a pair of Brickwerks 3 point inertia belts to my t25. It all works fine at the moment but I can see I will have to change things as the kids get older (8 & 10 yrs old).
The main problem is that the back of the R&R bed is quite low when in the upright position, so the seat offers zero head/neck 'whiplash protection' in the event of a rear end shunt. To counter this, the kids (both 130cm tall) sit on booster seats which have adjustable backs (e.g. Brittax Adventure). The problem you then have is that the Brickwerks belts are only just long enough to go round the seat/child
If I was to do it again, I would look for a seat bed with high back and integral belts.
Cheers
Jim

You might also find that the seat belt mounting points are corroded once you get the side panels off

Re: newbie: child seating question
Thats good info @jimrat , thanks.
I think I am leaning towards one of the full width M1 R&R beds with integrated belts. My little one is two and at the moment her seat back is way taller than her. and then it adjust in height up until 7yrs old i believe, so should be good in that respect for a little bit.
I've got a fair bit of welding to do, so wouldnt surprise me if the factory belt mounts a rusted too lol

Re: newbie: child seating question
Hello everyone, lm looking in to beds and seat belts too as we need to strap in the seat of our 14 month old. I saw the m1 beds, they seem like a good deal considering the brickworks belts are 80 quid each. Does anyone have one? Do they need a plinth on the engine lid? I like the idea of the extra storage.

Re: newbie: child seating question
They look like they fold more or less flat, level with the deck lid. I guess you may need a carped sheet of ply on top of it to bring it perfectly level with the ply on the bed.
