No gears MkII scirocco
OK I can select gears ok, but there's no drive, just a faint whirr when the clutch is out.

Re: No gears MkII scirocco
Oh dear
Sorry to hear that Kev.
I've had three Sciroccos over the years and the current one is a "keeper". Never actually come across that problem, either in person, or on the (very helpful) forum = http://sciroccoregister.co.uk/carforum/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: No gears MkII scirocco
Yes I asked there too.
I'm hoping it's that cheap clutch friction plate I put in 4 years ago
I'd just sold it BTW, the chap was happy, 300 yds later he phoned to say it had broke down.
Gave him his money back.

Posts crossed there as you were typing.
I reckon, if it was the centre plate, you would be able to tell by the feel of the gear lever, as in the gears won't be rotating (except maybe a bit weakly from the input shaft spigot bearing). Hoping for you it's that simple though. At least if it is the box, Rocco boxes are not too rare or expensive.

Re: No gears MkII scirocco
Not firm links, no, but the Rocco forum is a good place to start (I know you knew that
) - there are always folk breaking Rocco's for spares on there, plus there are still Golf / Rocco / Passats in some breakers.
This may help you choose a suitable box code (many will interchange) = http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/index.php?page= ... misc&id=25" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mostly it's just checking whether yours has the larger output flange or not, though they are swappable (ask me how I know
).
There is one on Ebay right now, but it's not right for your car = LINK it's an old 4 speed box.

Re: No gears MkII scirocco
Just looked on the forums "breaking for spares" section and currently there are only 2 entries on there
There used to be loads.
Just shows, getting collectable so not being broken, being repaired and kept hold of
