Hi all, I hve fitted my new 2.1 watercooled engine, and had to get it in in a rush as we had tickets to a festival, but now we are back I need to sort out the exhaust, nearly all the bolts had snapped, 6 out of 8 I think,
5 out of the 6 have been drilled out ( not sure if thread has been damaged) and we managed to get the exhaust on but the threads are on right and it is blowing big time, is helicoiling the best way?
And is it something that anyone can do or does it need to go to a machine shop? Thx

Helicoil M8 is my preference, you can drill out M10 and use stepped studs (VW H sell them) but M8 helicoil is better because it's stronger than an aluminium thread
yes you can do it yourself, buy a kit with the drill and tap and insertion tool, they are cheap enough
Buy 2D M8 helicoils (2D= 2x diameter = 16mm long) and DO NOT drill more than this pic shows.
You can buy a right angle drill attachment for your battery drill for better access but some bits may need to come off.
