I am planning to change the transmission oil this weekend, and have seen on the Forum that there is a suggestion to add some Molyslip.
I intend to change the transmission oil every 2 years from now on, so not sure whether I need to add the Molyslip or not. On the other hand, I reckon the transmission oil hasn't been changed for quite some time, so the cogs might be in need of some extra slip.
Your thoughts on a £10 note to the usual address please.

Re: Molyslip 2001G (Gear Oil Supplement)
I used to put Mollyslip in the engine and gearbox of my Morris Minor. Never had a problem and I am still driving it with the original engine. It is impossible to say if it helped put I would use it again. To be honest, I have forgotten all about Mollyslip until you mentioned it.

I changed my oil last year for the first time in the 15 years I have owned it and probably the first time since new.

Re: Molyslip 2001G (Gear Oil Supplement)
Good quality GL4 spec oil (semi synthetic if possible) is all you need.
VW filled these for LIFE so changing the gear oil every two years is a bit excessive, however, given the age of these things I accept some EXTRA maintenance is prudent. So 30K intervals or every 3 years would be my recommendation.

Re: Molyslip 2001G (Gear Oil Supplement)
Thanks for that. I did a bit more research and came to the conclusion that modern oils should have all that's needed.
I read that VW claim the trans oil never needs changing, but to be honrst I just want to see if there are any cogs etc. attached to the drain plug magnet.

Re: Molyslip 2001G (Gear Oil Supplement)
Update!
Well, I spent a happy morning grovelling under the van today and succeeded to change the gear oil.
Happy to report that neither level nor drain plugs put up much of a fight, although getting the thread started when putting the level plug back in was a challenge. I don't know why they didn't put it on the other side where there is clear access.
Not too many iron filings on the drain plug magnet either, but judging by the colour of the old oil, a change was due.
A short test drive didn't reveal a huge difference in gear changing, although the usual clunky reverse gear was silky smooth.
I had obtained a 1 litre pump to refill the gear box but soon found it was very time consuming and reverted to the funnel + garden hose method shown in the wiki. In the words of Mr Punch, 'that's the way to do it!'
