Brake Panic

Post by Sir Brixalot »

I've ordered the kit to refurb the caliper. Whats worrying me is that at the end of this section in the Haynes it says not to split the caliper under any circumstances. When I was putting the pads in the top part of the caliper slid off very easily ( there isn't any warning in this part of the Haynes) and I tied it out of the way overnight.

I can't see what harm this would have done but I'm worried now. Is it safe?

Sorry can't help but...

Is it just me or does "Brake Panic" by Sir Brixalot put a wry smile on your face?

We all have to start somewhere. If I need to get a new caliper, so be it. I'll be no worse of than if I'd got a garage to do the work and I'll know next time. It slid off so easily I can't understand why it shouldn't come off but I don't want to take any risks

You got me confused, which part of the haynes manual are you reading, i cant see where it says dont split the caliper under any circumstances. Have you just removed the lower bolt and swung it up and tied it away ?
