Transmission chatter

Post by KINGPRAWN »

At low engine speeds with pulling amount of throttle I get a nasty transmission clatter that I'm sure is worse than it used to be ???? Obviously it always it it as anything with a prop shaft does .. Buy it seems to be worse lately .... I have a telescopic prop no the std one which has the rubber doughnut but that's been on for 4/5 years now .... Anything I could/should check ???? Thanks all :ok

Do a VC test
drive 20 miles to an empty car park, stick her on full lock, foot off the accelerator, release clutch will she drive gently round in circles on idle gently scrubbing a rear tyre - if so VC is probably OK, if it stalls or requires fair throttle and scrubs hard then possibly on the tight side and the wind up of the transmission is the cause of your clatter; if not done recently change the transmission oil see what the drain plug magnet has to say wear wise;
is it same prop off ? Have you got grease nipples on prop have they been done regularly ?

Thanks Aiden ..... VC is fine .... But not checked the oil/grease yet , all is perfect until im in too low a gear and give it more pedal .. That's when it complains but easily prevented if I back off or drop it down a gear ..
