1.9 petrol engine prob (im a thicky please help)
hi there just brought a 1.9 petrol engine t25 panel van, brought it on ebay drove it back from torquay to winkleigh approx 50 miles no problems at all, however since jumping in this morning and going for a drive theres a problem, the engine starts fine and tick over with out any problems at all, however when i put it in gear and accelerate the engine faulters some times stalls and doesnt accelerate as it should i dont have a clue as to whats wrong with it as im no vw expert,it almost feels like the engines chocked up or blocked or something, when i take my foot off the accelerator and stop its fine and goes back to tick over, anyone got any ideas? id be thankful for any help and suggestions, thanks in advance all the best paul aka billymaya

--obviously check yer rubber fuel lines are ok-you should replace these on newly aquired van, anyway 'cos if they are perished & leak in the engine bay you will have a fire--change the small fuel filter just behind the fuel tank outlet--but realisticaly to solve the problem--& I'm guessing its a fuel problem-you will need to remove the top of the carb & clean out float bowl--but also check your advance/retard pipe is in place on the distributor & is working--
Billy...Defected to white box but still lurking.

1.9 engine problem (im a thicky help)
well ive only owned it for 2 days and havent had a chance to tinker with the engine ie oil, water and such ive been told that its most important to keep the coolant level correct as this stops the gaskets corroding? is that right? the engine def feels like its struggling one minute and then all of a sudden it shoots off kangarooing down the road lol ,ill try and follow all of your tips and suggestions thank you altho i think i might need a haynes manual to try and find all this stuff lol (can you tell im a novice?) thanks once again

have you had a chance to look at the wiki yet? https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Main_Page there is a new owners section near the top. Re coolant, it is the concentration and type that are just as important as level. G12+ is the stuff to get from VW or GSF carparts,http://www.gsfcarparts.com/
