Tips for fitting new grease cap

Post by Darkhorse »

Speedo stopped working a while back and due to the square hole on the grease cap rounding off. I hammered it out once and got a few more miles out of it but it looks like it's a gonner now.
Got the replacement part but it seems the new cap is really tight. I reckon it would only fit with a really good whack from the hammer and would almost certainly dent the cap. The van hasn't been driven so the running gear isn't hot.

Any tips on refitting a tight grease cap?
Cheers

If it's painted take the paint off, just where is slides in and grease the mating surfaces.

a block of wood or a wooden (plastic) hammer can help to avid damage.

Thanks. Paint off and lot of taps in a circular motion finally did it.
