5speed gearbox can't find any gear

Hi people looking for advise on loosing all my gears for a short time. This happen d on the homeward bound as I just got of the motorway went to pick 4th would not go in van had then slowed so tried 3rd tried em all no joy . pulled in and managed to crunch find all gears before pulling away able to find all gears ass normal . took it to work this mourning and it happened again. Then drove OK. Would this be first sign of gearbox trouble all thought s much appreciated del. PS forgot to say its 1985 1.9 water boxer 5speed box all standerd. Chears

Slave cylinder gone I think.

Kid on you are going to pull away in first then freeze with hand brake on, foot on clutch and engine on tick over. If slave or master is leaking clutch will gradually engage and stall engine. Also make sure clutch pedal comes up fully after depression. If not you may have "lost motion" in the system. Air in system could also give lost motion but tends not to be intermittent. I drive a Focus most of the time and after changing over to my 5 speed WBX I find myself poking around trying to find a gear particularly when tired or distracted.

All sorted now ' the problem after takeing box out and inspection was the spigot bearing had broken up when it let go I reckon it temporarily jammed crank and spigot shaft which meant gearbox was still spinning hence would not go in any other gear. All sorted now and running sweet as. .chears all
