Gas canisters, what size?

Have just cleaned up the gas hob in my 84 Devon conversion and change the pipes for the gas feed. I was using the canister from my bbq which is far too big but was only for a test run but it struck me that there isn't much room in the cupboard to put a bottle so what size do I need to stow it in there?

I have a couple of spare cylinders in the garage if you want them, one is smaller , the other is the middle size, both are empty so will need refilling.
I can't post them so if you can arrange pick up from HP9 near M40 they are yours.

Only just seen this but I'm in Essex anyway so a bit far, appreciate the offer though

I have just found a place that sells them over here by me.
€60 for a new and €15 for a refill. How does that compare with you guys up there in the UK?

When we did our interior we included space for a 6Kg Probane cylinder (because we already had 2 from our caravanning days). all you have to do is change the regulator. works well for us. we get about 2 weeks camping per cylinder, running the fridge and cooking (no heating).

...or find space for a small compact LPG tank. They only require minor adaptation and then you can fill up at the pump rather than pay a premium with Calor or Flogas or worse, struggle to find replacements when you're away. I run my Propex all winter (even on the way to work) and have gone from £50+ a year in bottled gas to just £14 annually. In bits, my setup came to £60. You can find some great little tanks at a fraction of the cost of the 'real thing'. My tank came from an agricultural business and cost £26 - full of gas. I put it under the back seat but tanks come in all sizes and you can find one that will fit practically anywhere.

Its a bit like leisure batteries. Hunt for one that fits a battery box and you'll nearly always pay more. Think outside the box and you'll get greater capacity at around half the price. Likewise if you stay with 14" wheels, you'll pay more for tyres and have less choice. Move to 15" and the price for tyres almost halves.

I wouldn't go back to bottled gas. Got my money back within 16 months and I can now afford to sit with sliding door open and the heat on my back. Ask Ghost123UK - he'll tell you the same. Depends how much you use the vehicle I guess but if its a keeper, moving to refillable is a no-brainer. Plenty places supply kits (at a big markup) but theres not much to one. Saw a suitable conversion candidate on ebay recently and it was £30 complete.

Was tempted to buy it, convert it and sell it on. Have a long, thin Stako tank that fits under a back seat in the lockup (for sale) but you can find some great 'dumpy' sized ones if you wanted to shove it in a cupboard.

Have you had a look at Wickford Gas, found them quite good in the past.
