I have just been trying to finish off a 1.9 TDi AFN conversion that someone else had started and abandoned, and am left with a few things I am unsure of.
Its had a loom modified by someone that has made a really neat job, so assume everything is okay on that side of things, and this appears to be an AFN from a mid to late 90's A4 as has the MAP sensor inside the ECU, and a separate inlet air temp sensor.
1) When I scan it for fault codes I get a fault for inlet air temp short to ground, and there was no inlet air temp sensor fitted, and could only find one 2-pin plug dangling, which is in the bit of loom near the throttle position sensor. But the plug doesn't quite fit the sensor.
2) Coolant temp gauge reads massively over, have tried a few different temp 20mm temp senders, but cant find one that seems to work with the clocks in the Van, and van is an '87 if that makes and difference. Only thing I can think of doing is getting the coolant flange for the end of the head from a T25 1.6 TD and using the old screw in M10 temp sender like it would have had originally.
3) ECU also shows a fault for engine speed signal, but does this only matter if they want to add cruise? Will it run quite happily at full power without it? and along the same lines there is a clutch pedal switch dangling near the ECU, does that also matter or is it just for cruise?
Thanks in advance for any help.
