caravelle window seals

i have a 87 caravelle and the window seals have chrome trim if i replace seals do ineed to replace like for like or can i use seal with no groove for a cheaper option

You can fit plain yes. Chris at VW emporium is helpful on seals - just avoid JK ones. Any money saved there would be lost in struggling to get theirs to fit and/or leaks. Mind you, you'll lose the Caravelle look. Your call. Just make sure they're made to fit factory windows.
