Coolant Leak

Post by crazyhorse »

Hi gang.

Back again.

I recently had a problem with a water leak. Took it to the garage, and was told it was the water pump. As a side note the engine was making a very tappety noise.

Got a new pump fitted noise went all was good £160. Is this a good price??

Anyhow, every time I park the van over night, these 2 puddles appear?? Havent had to add more coolant yet but what could it be?? Should I take it back??

Thanks all

Cant get underneath now too dark, at least the drops are consistent. Starting to leave a nice pattern on the road

Please don't take this as me telling you I know what it is - that would be impossible from the pics and available information.
However, it is consistent dripping from possible 2 sources, and after a water pump change...

So assuming a late style cooling system, perhaps he didn't change the gasket / seal between the two steel pipes that come off of the water pump?
( I don't know if the early system has a similar setup )

That is an easy conclusion to come to for me - given what I know ( not a lot  ) - at least it's a starting point to look at under the van?

That looks very similar position to where my leak was coming from, after posting a photo on here it was suggested it maybe the water jacket seal, and yes unfortunately it was, it's now with the mechanic having it done.

I am aware of a leak in the water jacket, has had some Kseal on it again on the old boys last service. it's been like this for 3 years now, but never had these 2 patches before. Will take pic in the morning.

Will take to garage in the morn, as the guy who did the water pump did say he needed to put some washers in.
