Post by tyneside-t25 »

Hi , i'm looking for some advice on how to change the auxiliary drive belt.the alternator belt looks a doddle but how do I change the other one which goes round the crank pulley as it looks like there is NO adjustment,do I need to remove the pulley to get the belt on ?

Hi mate, did mine a couple of months ago and its a pig of a job to be honest, the adjustment is on the waterpump pulley,it splits in half when you undo it,3 bolts, the two halves have shims in between,1 on the outside and 4 in between, the belt is adjusted be adding or removing the shims, can't remember what size belt i ended up using, hope this helps and good luck,Dave

Thanks Dave,
I intend doing a service & belt change in the next 2 weeks before I put the van back on the road in April ,the belt is quite loose so will need adjustment before I take it for a run.I assume taking a shim out will tighten the belt up ?.
Will see how it goes.
cheers

Yes remove a shim or two to tighten belt. On refitting, fit pulley bolts loosely and rotate engine by hand, tightening in turn evenly until all tight. Doddle of a job when you get the knack!
