Decoding the plate under a RHD passenger seat.

Post by Smiffo »

I'm after some input from a few geeks...

I read a few posts on the interwebs, regarding finding out what engine and gearbox your van left the factory with.
I found the plate under the passenger seat, but it's all number and letters.

A few sites had `decoders` but either needed subscriptions or they didn't work.

So - anyone one of you VW gurus know how to glean this information from the build plate?

Well done BigHerb..!!

I had totally forgotten about this question - kind of given up on it....
mine has engine/gearbox code of 51.

I am assuming it was DF as I can see where the idle stabiliser used to be - but curious which gearbox it had from new.

Is there somewhere reliable that I can convert the 51 code?
This is pure curiosity for me - I had such a mis-match of parts that I am keen to know how the old boy started life

It's in Dutch, but you can find engine codes there.
Looks like mine did indeed start as a DF 4 speed.

Tweede is dus de motor die in deze bus zit.
