Replacing Aerial

Evening ,
I need to replace the aerial on my Westy (mounted just to the left of the windscreen)
I can see the aerial lead disappearing in front of the brake fluid reservoir but wondered do I need to remove the headlight to gain access to unscrew aerial?
Cant find any info in the Bentley or on the forum.

Is it a pillar mount or a panel mount ?
I suspect a panel mount, so the underside of it is aces able from the inside of the van, up behind the dash, In front of the "A" pillar

Yes it is recommended to remove the N/S headlamp (just grille off and four screws holding the lamp frame) to gain easier access. The aerial comes off by undoing the chrome nut on top of the high angle (14 or 15mm open ended spanner) having access to the lower part of the aerial helps you prevent the whole body turning. The lead enters through a large hole behind the fuse box (well a bit higher than that) the aerial mounts in a void and not actually in the cab. Then its just a case of routing the cable over (removing the ash tray gives you direct access behind the radio) although you will need to push the radio forwards.
Look at the all stainless Hirschmann high angle aerials, sometimes referred to as 'retro or vintage' as fitted to the Beetle and even some Golfs.

Thanks gents for the reply. I will attempt to have a go at the weekend. I tried last night but too dark by the time I started.
Difficult to negotiate whilst holding a torch!!
