Twin light grill - How much?

Post by BOXY »

Got home tonight and found the bin men had manage to reverse into my stationary camper :(
At least they left a note with a number to call tomorrow.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement grill like this one? I don't think it's a SA or a Taifun grill.

That is a cut standard grille. There was an early (pre-1990l) SA grille that was very similar, but that isn't one.

Ouch :( Still, at least they had the decency to let you know that they had damaged it. A bit of a rarity nowadays

Hope you get it sorted out soon :ok

When you say a cut standard grill what do you mean? The inner lights have a moulded surround that the horizontal slats join on to. Here's a pre-bin lorry photo.

Yes you are right that doesn't look like a cut standard grill unless somebody did an excellent job of it.

Too dark now. I'll have a look tomorrow when I finish picking up the pieces. I'll have a look to see if there's a p/no. moulded in anywhere.

Very close approximation to the earlier SA grille (hardly anyone knows of them anyway), but as mm observes it has broken away leaving a clean edge all around the inner lamps and pale coloured filler is showing.

From the "Little Book of Camper Van" page 58. SA Microbus or Caravelle (note the sliding window catches and the 3-tone paint)
The grille is just visible and has a smaller square plinth for the inner lights, echoing the main/dips.

Yes you need the complete SA setup, I'm sure they will think they have got away "lightly".

I'd say that was a nicely DIY'd effort, you can see an identation in the filler where the 3rd horizontal slat meets the inner light ring in the picture. You need to remove it from the van and have a good look on the reverse.

Shame... but if it means you get an SA grille in return then your winning.
