Refitting plactic oil filler neck - is there a knack?

Post by sonic23 »

Hi all,
I must be a muppet as I cannot get the plastic oil filler neck back onto the metal neck of my 2.1 DJ. I spent a good 45 mins yesterday wiggiling it around, pushing twisting and all I'm suceeding it doing is mangling the end of the plastic neck.

Is there a knack to this?
cheers,
Rich

I don't think there's a knack, when I pulled mine out it went straight back in, and I'm cack handed. Let us know how you get on.

I pulled the one off my Aircooled 2ltr last week and after a few minutes of not being able to get it back on I noticed a slot in it and a nut on the metal base where presumably it used to bolted on before I ripped it off. By accident. Anyway, I lined them up and just pushed it on and it seems to be ok.

Ah yes - the one i had on my air cooled 2L is a lot different to the plastic one I've got for the 2.1 WBX. The Aircooled one was dead easy to fit.....and a much better design grrrr. (Unless they're supposed to be the same and I've got something dodgy?)

Do not bother. Even if you can get it back together it will leak. They are aroud £10 from VAG get a new one. Be warned they are a bit of a fiddle to bolt back on and you will have to do an oil change at the same time.

If you do manage to get it back on fit a hose clip done up tight as a stop gap untill you fit new.
Never enough time

Got it back on - I had to cut off about 5mm from the bottom as it was ruined. It's now got a hoseclamp securing it in placee.
thx
