First problems since conversion

Post by klatuu »

Well its been a year since the conversion has been on the road, three problems have occurred:

1) Sticky throttle mechanism, cleaned and now slippy

2) Fuel filter buggered up, this has been replaced with an external one from an early astra GTE same as a Cavalier I think.

3) Lambda probe failed, on startup I noticed a slight hesitation when the throttle was being...throttled, this has got progressively worse to the point the van was hesitating / bogging down and then surging away, it was getting dangerous to drive.
A bit of research on the internet indicated that it could have been the temp sensor (the brown plug) on the coolant manifold.
I rigged up the engine check light, which indicated that the engine needed checked (no surprises there), so I did a bit of experimentation, I systematically pulled the plug on the temp sensor and airflow meter, each of which made the engine run rougher, finally I disconnected the lambda probe (which tells the ECU to use a default setting) and the van ran like it used to.
I have had a problem like this before when the lambda probe failed on my car.
A quick call to Subaru and they quoted £200!!!!! so I went to TMS motor factors and a new one is being delivered for £75.

Is this useful in the Wiki?

All of these problems could have occurred in the life of any vehicle, so I'll say that there has been no problems with the conversion up to now.
Gort, Klatuu Baradda Nict-DOH!
