Odd Knocking noise from the rear

Post by dalmationman »

I got this odd knocking noise from the rear only when it's moving .
Sounds like it's wheel related.
Do wheel bearings knock ?

OK I know I should jack it up and spin the wheel but its cold dark and raining.
One of you lot will know what it is.ta.

Try Wheel nuts......Large nut holding hub in center of wheel.....CV joints.....Bolts holding drive shaft to G/box....That's a start

You sure it not the Dalmation banging his tail on the sliding door
Health has now stopped me camping Etc.

Try the wheel nuts !
Just done that in the dark, thought I might be getting three wheels on my wagon :o
They were OK but the last major job it had done on it was a new clutch.
I strongly suspect those driveshaft nuts now maybe they have worked loose.
Many thanks.

1, remove can of beans from cupboard in rear!
2, check driveshaft bolts!

If CV bolts are loose........make sure they have got those locking washers on or you be doing them again soon! 8)

Thanks peeps.
How easy is it to check and tighten the bolts ?
And where do I find them, roughly.
Accesability OK, or not ?

CV bolts are where the drive flange comes from your gearbox. Easy to get to under van.
These are socket bolts, (allen) make sure you clean out the heads so that you can get the allen key well into the bolt, and make sure it is the correct size key

sounds like a cv joint.

favourite cure is take off the driveshaft and turn it round so it running the opposite way.......will double the life of the cv joint. Mine was banging like a "bar-steward" last year, took off the shaft, spun it round and its been silent for 3000 miles
