sliding door centre track

I know there is a post with the exact same title but I didn't want to hijack that one!
So after reading the aforementioned post I decided it was high time I had a look at mine (just in case)
I have been slowly going around the van rubbing down all the small rust spots and treating them to stave off the inevitable.
Anyhoo here are some pics of the track.
Some advice please on how best to proceed





One question, is the beading between the cover and body supposed to be stuck on or is it just an interference fit?

thats not tooooo bad, hey look it will be rotten behind it and short of removal you wont cure it so rake out as much as you can, and treat, if you have the interior panels off then you will get a better look ,that said they often dont have much sign of doom in the early stages

I plan to have that interior panel off tomorrow and have a look!
Luckily we don't get a lot of wet weather over here which appears to be delaying the inevitable.
I've had the van 4 years now and this is the first time I have had any concerns about tin worm.

Ok, so interior panels off and these were the pics, not much to see in my opinion but I am no expert! these views are straight up on the inside of the panel



Raked out what I could, difficult to get in there really.......



Then treated it with vactan, leaving it overnight before red oxide treatment





I didn't want to go the whole hog and take the slider off, I don't have a covered premises to leave it so it's just easy remedial work at the moment.

youve done all you can, that should keep it for a while, the area under the track will be the same, but short of removal thats it, as for door off, well now you have cover off its a 10 sec job to lift door of, it helps if door card is of so you can hold it correctly, but no worries

yeah, I watched utube last night, the just kampers one about removing door.
Seems easy enough, just need to get the right bucket to match the 2x4!

Just a quick one mm, once treated with red oxide do I then squeeze a bead of sealant in there? I was thinking of a polyurethane sealant similar to windscreen bonding sealer?

Well I had a good look but couldn't find it again.
I'm sure it was in a post on here that gave me the link. I'll keep looking though.
Just the one question, now that top part of the channel has been treated do I seal it up or leave it open?

I guess all the hilarity sidetracked my last question....... (yes I thought it a tad amusing as well)
Do I now run a bead of sealant along the top, where I dug out the previous sealant, or just leave it as is so it can be seen more readily?

Once treated and painted etc then yes run a bead along it and then a dose of dynax ub or similar
