Have had an issue with the starter motor which seems to be okay now i.e. it starts!
However, I've now noticed that my van (2.1 fuel injected petrol auto) now sounds a bit 'chuggy' and lumpy when its running. It starts first time, but it sounds different and takes differing lengths to start, every time. I noticed that I took it out the other day and it just died at the traffic lights..the revs seem to change depending on which gear Im in. In P the revs are higher than when in N or D. Sometimes it doesn't handle being in Reverse very well and might cut out or at least sounds like its going to? I had a petrol leak fixed not so long ago...could it be something to do with that?
Any ideas? Thanks

Erratic idle.
Fuel injection system fault
Clogged air filter
Vacuum leak at the manifold
Wrong plug gaps
Low compression
cam lobes worn
I'd throw timing in there too

Yes sort of like erratic idle.
Well, I drove it today, only for a short journey and it was okay, but when I stopped it I could smell petrol just near the passenger side wheel arch...
Im now thinking I have some sort of petrol leak again...
Maybe like you said, fuel injection system fault... or a blockage, or a leakage?
Hmmph

If the top of the tank is rusty, or the rubber grommets on the fuel filler are perished, you may be getting water in the petrol.
