jag merc or yeti
Looking to change me car either jag sovereign, Merc c320cdi or Skoda yeti 170 psi 4x4 about 8k to spend any thoughts?

PS the late 90's C-class were made in SA and they rust like a nail at the seaside. Avoid.

I am guessing the V6 tdi then? Not really in my realm of experience.
But an Alloy body Jag pushing 10 years old will be getting ripe. Do your homework thoroughly.

Got to be a Jag from that list, surely? Buy a Jag, be the king of the road - beautiful, stylish and uncommon cars, definitely got to be worth any extra running costs to enjoy owning one.
My money would, and actually did, go on an older Merc from the company's golden years, in my case an end-of-the-line minty W124 E320 estate. Thirsty, certainly but a joy to own and drive everyday with the kind of build-quality, practicality, class and road-manners that no-one but Mercedes could offer back in the day. Seats 7 if needed, carries any load, wafts about effortlessly, goes like a train all day, very reliable if maintained properly, a lovely simple cabin and reassuringly simple mechanics too. You could have the very best for your budget from a specialist dealer and it won't drop much in price if you look after it - they're becoming a bit of a modern classic now with a cult following. We use ours as if it's 3 years old and it seems to love it.
But yeah, a Jag...

The Jag will be a nicer place to sit while waiting for the recovery truck to arrive, that much is certain.

Strange bed fellows, not the Jag and Merc but the addition of the Yeti. For the record my wife has a yeti, which I drive on the odd occasions like when I definately want to get somewhere without the worry of a break down and when I need the space to move things because when the seats come out its like having a small van, it is brilliant. The removal of all the rear seats takes about 3 minutes, and that includes getting them stowed in the garage. I have just replaced 16 rotten fence panals which have been broken up and taken up the tip in the back of the yeti, not sure you could do that in the jag or even e class merc. Guess it depends on what you need the car for.

Another vote here for the Yeti. Good design, good VW mechanics. They look pretty wide though, my only negative. The price still fairly high, so holding their value.
