Wish me luck!!

Post by Drucifer »

Well today after months of issues we should be putting an engine back in Busty. Has been a long running saga, first of all the original 1.7D died a slow painful death, then the 1.9D fitted by those cowboys at Elite died after 3 months, the replacement took them 4 months to put in, that then lasted 6 months before failing due to them putting corroded parts back on covered in mastic, they refused to fix it as was outside the 12 months of the original purchase!
So we sourced another engine, put all new parts apart from the pump on it, day before putting it in my garage is broken into and the engine amongst other things is stolen.
Eventually get another complete engine although has different pump (a lucas) worked out how to wire in etc so fingers crossed it goes in ok but need to set the timing once in which is the bit am not looking forward to as only ever really dealt with petrol bikes and minis!
Also will be the time to find out am missing some vital part knowing my luck!

Is it an AEF engine? If it is I can help with wiring and timing.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Ok the engine is in, it is wired up but had to order a few bits as darlek cap and the cap for the overflow tank was missing, think will also change the clips for the hoses as a few seem a bit past it.
It turns over fine, have just got to bleed the air out of the pump before trying to start it.

Thanks for the help Colin, I used your excellent write up on brickyard, it made it much easier :)
