VW Keys Vs. Your Keys

Post by DoubleOSeven »

Checked the WIKI and the technical forum. Looking for any diagrams on changing the wafers in lock barrels.

And heres how to retumble ignition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpoLrbNFSl4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I tried it - waste of time. The tumblers in the ignition lock are much longer/bigger than those used in door locks and there are ten different sizes so re-keying is hopeless. Trust me, don't even try - just buy a new lock.

If you just want to take one apart to use up a couple of hours with no sense of meaning at the end of it - the ignition lock is ideal. :D

One days patience and I've managed to reduce my bundle of keys to a single key (ignition, drivers door, passenger door, sliding door, tailgate, glove box) and a petrol cap key. Fairly enjoyable, nice little project.

Don't suppose you have any plans for that pile of lock wafers to the right?

Now convert to LPG and you won't need the fuel cap key :rofl

Maybe we should create a sticky and a perpetual pass around of the wafers - what goes in must create a new pile coming out? I'm following with interest, will be rekeying the rear soon

On a side note - my local locksmith is struggling to get a blank to fit my fuel cap - anyone had any luck getting one cut recently and if so what blank is it?

That works in theory but not in practice. The ones that come out are worn which if used in another lock makes it easy to get in via worn keys.

If original fuel cap it should open with the ignition/door key?
So maybe need a VW blank.
