Bleeding Radiator

Hi, filled the expansion tank with coollant, left the cap off, unscrewed the bleeding screw on the radiator, then waited and waited and then the coolant boiled over :{ is my thermostat fxxxked ?
Concerned from Kilmarnock.

Revs not high enough to start with. Idea is to bleed the air before things get too hot. Not enough revs and the water pump won't be able to force the air out before it overheats. May take a few goes. Should be revving enough to bug neighbours.
