Another one for our resident TV repair experts

Post by silverbullet »

I will admit that I gave up on the big Philips Matchline that went pop, domestic events overtook me.
Thanks for the info anyway OBG ;)

I have since replaced it with a bargain Philips HD flatscreen (can you see a pattern here?) Model 32PF7521D/10
But...
The picture has what i can best describe as a rightward chromatic abberation fault, i.e. strong colours seem to bleed a bit to the right.
Its subtle, but irritating!
Is this a sign of it being a duffer or does it need a bit of "tuning" via trim pots on the board?
Input signal is from a Virgin VboxHD and SCART cable but I am not convinced the fault lies there.
Or do I just take it back and fall asleep in front of something else?

You use a SCART lead for your HD VM box?
Or did you mean you have HD on one input from virgin box, and SCART for another device?

If it's the former, I would try the HDMI option to see if the problem resolves.

( your new TV is probably HD, and I don't think you can get an HD picture over SCART connections. )

TV has choice of inputs, I have simply used SCART output from Vbox as per previous tv.
Would using a non HD input source mess up the picture this much?
If it was some crt tv I would be suspecting a focussing fault or similar...

I would be inclined to go HDMI, if for no other reason than to prove if there is an issue with the TV.

It seems a bit ironic that I am suggesting newer is better, especially as I am doing this on a site where we are here because we have opted for old T25 technology over newer cars, however in the arena of TV pictures, newer really is better in every way. IMO anyway.

You probably have an HDMI cable that came with the VM box too?

I now find that "colour bleed/smearing" is the term.
I wil dig for an HDMI cable and let you know.

One HDMI cable, told the Vbox to output 1080p wide and all is crystal clear.
I can see all of Alexander Armstrong's wrinkles now.
Thanks everyone.
