Part number for syncro sump plug
Im having problems getting the appropriate sump plug for my syncro. The old one has an allen key socket to remove it which is rounded out. I have the tool to get the old one out but I will need to replace it, but nobody can seem to find the same type. If anyone can get me the part number for this type of plug, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks.

You might need a logon to vagcat to see it... Item 54
Not convinced the allen key plug is the correct one, think they're the same as the 2WD, M14

True syncro sump with plug at front or 2WD with plug at back...?
Still don't think the std plug is hex key, but someone else may have seen them like this

I actually got this sorted. Jesus I had some bitch of a time getting the sump plug out. Ended up hammering in a flathead screwdriver bit into the plug and using a ratchet to remove it. Its out now, as is the oil, and the engine sounds much healthier for it and runs much smoother and theres more power. It was 6000 miles overdue a change. I flushed the engine in the process. Used some wynn's engine flush and it did the job nicely. Checking the oil now is like putting the dipstick in a can of oil. As for the plug, well the plug I actually got that I thought was the wrong type was in fact correct, and is a 17mm standard head. Where the hex plug came from I dont know. So its done and Im happy cause I can do all my own oil changes from here on out.

Good, well worth the hassle in the end
I know the feeling... still never quite sure with one of mine, what will come out when I undo it, the sump plug or the boss that its screwed into!
