Remotron gas powered warm air blower

Hi all. I've checked the archives etc but cannot find any reference to the Remotron warm air blower I have fitted behind the front grill of my 82 air cooled Autoholmes. It has its own gas tap in the kitchen cupboard and a toggle switch on the dash (but no thermostat) which when operated runs a fan for a few seconds which then stops. Does anyone know if these are any good and how much they cost to get serviced. Thanks all

Did you ever get the heater working? I (probably foolishly) have just bought a working Remotron to fit in our 1982 Aircooled Devon. The heat exchangers are currently fine but the control boxes are tired and cables struggle to open and shut the boxes so we have heat all the time (unless I disconect the control boxes and being an early Aircooled it has no dash fan/blower which is a bit of a negative. I am interested in positioning the Remotron behind the grill (space behind the front panel and some how connecting it into the heating system with maybe a couple of extra vents to warm the cab up when camping. I am hoping the blower part of the Remotron will also be a help blowing hot or cold air onto the screen. I already have an LPG tank (for the engine) under the rear bench so am struggling for somewhere to fit a heater and think the large space behind the grill panel / above the spare wheel may be a possibility.

I am hoping fitting it behind the grille will allow it to be plumbed into the heater box under the dash. Do you have any images of the install behind the grille showing exhaust and how it connects into the vans heating system. Also is the Remotron unit protected from the weather or is it ok in its semi enclosed location.

Are there any drawbacks from putting it there?

long term I would consider ditching the heat exchangers for j tubes and do away with the original heating system from the engine.
