Hi All,
I've made an error - I was messing about with my Dizzy whilst trying to diagnose a starting issue. I've bent the vane on the distributor (stupid I know)
I cant seem to find them sold individually - am I best trying to bend it back into place OR just bite the bullet and get a new dizzy?
THanks in advance.

Re: Dizzy - Bent Vane
The hall sensor acts like a metal detector looking for the edges of the metal vanes so as long as it does not touch or is not too far away it should be fine
the distance between vane edges can't change much with a small distortion from origional and this is what sets the spark timing

Re: Dizzy - Bent Vane
thanks itchy.
I've managed to get it back on the dizzy. No touching and seems roughly in place correctly. Here hoping its going to be ok.
Right , back to the my original problem. Van not starting.
I've checked battery level , fuel supply which seem fine. Getting 12V to the coil but no spark at a plug. Coil resistance tested ok. So now I want to test the hall sensor and If Im correct I can follow this advice from a previous post in this forum:

Just remove the centre HT lead from the distributor and hold it about 5mm away from a metal part of the engine or bodywork and away from the fuel system,
remove the three pin plug from the distributor and probe a piece of wire into the centre pin of the plug,
switch on the ignition and then scrape the other end of the wire along a metal part of the engine this should then produce sparks from the HT lead, i
f you get sparks then the rest of the ignition system is OK and the hall sensor is at fault.
If you don't get sparks some other part of the ignition system is at fault.
Before you replace the sensor check there is more than 5 volt across the two outside pins of the three pin plug.

Found it!
Bad earth from the ICU. Cleaned up the wires and voila she started.
Now I've got to reset my timing as I've messed about with the dizzy.
