Front wheel wobble

Post by stevie43_uk »

Hi All,

I'm trying to eliminate front wheel wobble that occurs about 55 - 65 mph

I've had the wheels balanced without success - bit of an odd one as it only happens sporadically and not all the time - sometimes it can be smooth as silk then it builds up and can get quite bad - then disappears again.
Checked wheel nuts and wheels for play to not avail.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

have you had the tyres from new or did they come with the van ? could be someone has used some of this stuff

Its supposed to seal a puncture as it happens , stopping you having a flat tyre, I had a mate use it on a motorbike years ago.... what would happen is that every now and then the it would cause horrendous wheel vibration, but not all the time, the spinning /centrifugal forces must have been causing it to move inside the tyre causing it to become out of balance , he had the tyre cleaned out and all was good again. Just a thought ...

Swop wheels front to back and see if it makes any difference.

Hi All,

No slime in the tyres lol - seen that before tho

Actually front to back change did make it less of a problem but still there ?

May get tracking checked out .....I meant to mention I have 16" merc ml alloys all around but have Brickwerks spacers on the front to clear the top wishbone ?

What about steering bushes ?

If the wobble vibration is not cured by a balance then either the tyre is damaged, or the steering is at fault.

Recently had pa problem with steering movement/wobble ,ended up fitting new rubber ring flexi joints on the lower steering shaft. that cured it! might be worth a try ! I am running 235/60/16 so lots of rubber to turn!

if you have changed a wheels rotation direction you can get this
I had it when I swapped tyres side to side on front by accident, swapped them back and it was fine.

Also had oval tyres which do similar ( possibly left sitting in one position for a long time would do this) , when the tyre ovality aligns with the other tyre no shake, as it goes out of alignment shake which matches the random pattern you see, had the balance checked they were ok, a tyre fitter spotted it in the end...new tyres fixed it.

jack and spin wheel to look for it.
