Hi Guys, my 1987 water cooled T25 has broke dpwn. it came to a spluttering stop and I had to call a recovery wagon to tow me home.
The recovery driver said it looks like the fuel pump has packed in.
I have since changed it but the problem still remains. The van starts on ignition but as soon as i try to drive off it stalls....
Im afraid Im lost...anyone know of a good mechanic not to far from Ryde on the Isle of Wight I could call out...

Hi
I am based in Ryde. I use Rob Gaze based in Cowes. He specialises in VW campers and looks after our 1982 2.0CU camper. He is excellent and been really helpful to us. He had previously offered to come to Ryde to help us - not sure if that is because we use him normally though? His number is 248555 - phone a few times as he works alone and often doesn't get to the phone in time! Often good to visit him....
Prior to using Rob I had tried a few other garages who really struggled with my T25 - and actually gave some bad advice.
Where are you based in Ryde? There are a couple of T25s round the corner from me?
Mike

hI Mike I live at Oakfield, sadley Iv'e had nothing but problems trying to get my van sorted. I also normally use Rob over at Cowes, but unfortunatly he has been tied up with other jobs and has'nt had time to come and look at mine. The Van has now been out of action for two weeks and is parked outside my house.
Since the breakdown, the recovery drivers advice was to replace the fuel pump and fuel filter, so I orded those parts online and waited six days for delivery....not happy..fitted those parts but the problem is still there. In desperation I spoke to a local mobile mechanic, told him the problem and he said he would come and take a look if I could wait a couple of days...I did wait but he never turned up. Someone also gave me a number for another mobile mechanic and fair enough he turned up. His Rates £35.00 to find the fault..if he cant find the fault no payment. Well his first words were, oh I ain't worked of one of these in ages....he fiddled with a few screws on the carb and poked his screwdriver around and said the spring which operates the flapper on top of the choke is broke that,s your problem £35.00. do you want me to take a look, and see if I can fix it, I said I have a spare carb do you wanna take a look,he did and took half of that carb to bits and broke something inside of it and then said, I think this is a job for a specialist, I might be able to do it but it's gonna be very expensive..at that he said iv'e got to go, not sure if I can get back tomorrow because I have lot's of other things to do. He charged me £80.00 before leaving, His breakdown of the bill was £35.00 because in his opinion he had found the fault and just over an hours work trying to fix it...that'll be £80.00. Just before he left he said if you wanna have a fiddle around with it yourself go ahead...cheers mate...
My other half is not to delighted as we are booked for a weeks holiday in Kent from the 31st August to the 6th September..can't see that happening somehow....
I have since spoke to Rob again over at cowes, and he said if I can get the van to him on a low loader he'll take a look...phew anyone wanna buy a T25...

Hi
I live on Alexandra Road (Elmfield/ Oakfield border) so not far away. Are you on Great Preston Road? I will ask my neighbour (he is in the trade) to see if he can recommend anyone. There is a mobile mechanic at Bullen (recommended but I cannot remember his name.....). Will try to search him out for you too.
I know Rob gets quite busy through the summer .... I try not to bother him from June - September (except MOT time). He seems good at identifying problems early too, hence I replaced my carbs this year but did it in February when he was quiet!

Hi mike,
thanks for your reply and helpful info, anyway I managed to get hold of Rob and he sent a low loader truck to collect the van. Rob ripped the old carb out and fitted me another.. so back on the road, and looking forward to a weeks holiday down at camber sands.
