Reversing Camera recommendations

Post by Reimotim »

Hi Guys,
Thinking about getting a reversing camera, but there are loads out there, so the question is what recommendations do people have?
I'm happy to fit it.

Cheers! :ok

You can get some great options now for fairly little money.

Amazon do some very good deals, I didn't want a display permenantly on view, so have got a pop up display (again on amazon for about a tenner) with wireless connection to a camera on the number plate.

Works well for simple reversing, but a friend of mine fitted a permanent setup over his normal rear view mirror so it acts as not only a reversing camera but an actual rear view camera (IR lights mean it works in the dark too). The display clips over the existing rear view mirror and you can even pop SD cards in or connect hardware to watch films etc - not sure why you'd want to but option I guess.

About 30-40 quid will get a decent wireless setup, but you really don't need to spend much over 50-60 even for a good setup.

A wired setup you can get cheaper but obviously have to mess around with wire routing etc, but ok if you already have a route in mind.

Techmoan seems to review a lot of dashcams, but I can't find any reversing cam reviews from him.

The technology moves so fast, even if anyone did recommend one, it would probably be a year out of date. I'd have thought the main criteria would be having a screen you can see properly - 7" at least.

I was considering a reversing camera after fitting this bad boy and realized i couldn't see a thing out of the back window

However, although i think it may be of some use, it has dropped down my list of things to get as its really no big deal now I am used to relying on my side mirrors. I must admit though, my head was spinning when you start taking into account the different sensors (CMOS, CCD) and the effective viewing angles

I have one of those that is meant to fit over the rear view mirror, but it doesn't so it sits on the dash.

I have one of these ones,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310760589990? ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

works well enough, but the viewing angle isn't that wide. The camera is mounted inside the bus, top of the rear window looking down towards the bumper, can't see the bumper but you know that if something is about to go out of view then you need to stop.

Monitor has a second video input, can be used for DVD's or headunits with composite outputs etc.

Unfortunately the T25 rear view mirror is too big for it to clip onto, which is a blessing in disguise because if you were to fix it there then you have no mirror as the LCD isn't mirrored when its switched off (some are).

The Wireless makes it simple and works well, no interference etc, but you still have to route a reversing light signal to the front of the van to turn on the LCD, I've re-used one of the redundant wires from the original loom (alternator warning light) when I converted to TDI.
