Plans to renovate by a newbie!!

Hiya All!!

Being very new to the scene, i'd thought i'd just run this by you all to see if you can give me any tips and tricks! I bought my 1981 Club Joker in March and am happy with my purchase. That's despite replacing the starter motor and batteries!! However, it has a full MOT now, so every cloud and all that!!

I've got the laminate flooring, along with some hardboard ready to redo the floor. My only concern with that is my bus has the two grooves to fit additional seating, if required. The screws that hold these in place are slightly raised, hence the need for some 3mm boarding to make the floor nice and level. Does anyone else have the two grooves for additional seating ? If so, how did you get round the raised screw issue??

My next job will be to refurbish my steel rims. They're looking very tired, although there's nothing wrong with them. I have wire brushes, wire wool, primer and black rattle can wheel paint and intend leaving the tyres on the rims and masking them up in case of overspray. Has anyone got any tips for a good result?

My last job for now will be to replace the headlining. I've got a pop-top, so it's mainly above the cab that i'll be doing. I intend using the original as a template and simply using 3mm board with perhaps a glued on interior finish. I've had a look around for a replacement headlining, but haven't managed to find one. Do you think my plan will work? It seems simple enough??...

It would be a better and longer lasting job on the rims if you buy another set and have them shot blasted then powder coated.

Hi Graham,
there's a company on eBay that sells head-lining kits with the correct fabric pre-cut and pre-stitched.

You can do it with boards too and carpet or cover with something like MVM stretchy carpet. If you do though, be sure to insulate above and use high temp adhesive or it will fall down the first time you go anywhere moderately warm.
