Tyres for 16" Granada Scorpio Cosworth Alloys

Post by sherlylock »

Before I go and order some tyres I was wondering if you lovely lot could cast an eye over my reasoning for choosing the tyres I have......

MY standard knackered transporter steelies are shod with 185/82/14

My van project came with a set of 16" x 6.5j Granada Scorpio alloys - 2x tyres fitted 215/55/16 93 (so not load rated!) - so I've decided to use these seeing as they came with the van (changing the tyres though). Longer studs/bolts and correct taper seated fixings already purchased.

6.5j alloys can take a range of widths: 185-215, with the ideal being 195-205

Using the Brickwerks alloy/tyre calculator there seem to be a few sizes available to keep the same rolling radius but I was struggling to find any that are over the 97 min load rating.....

....until I tried 195/65/16 which, when typed into BlackCircles brings up lots of commercial van tyres, 8ply & rated at 104. Must be a common van sized tyre?

At this size Brickwerks calculator suggests this is 6mm (0.92%) difference in diameter to original.

So I think I'm going to buy these:

Lots of numbers and probably too much detail but can anyone see any issues with my thinking? I'd rather buy correctly rated tyres (and I know they're going on alloys - but I don't know how to check the rating of those!)

Thoughts?

Well no-one has replied screaming "DON'T DO IT!" I'm assuming I got the tyre size correct ;)

Ordered a pair of tyres and got them fitted on Saturday (with longer studs with tapered seats, from Brickwerks). Well pleased. Same rolling radius as the original steelies that I took off :)
