Hey Ian, that is a lot of dosh.
You may want to consider the Scooby conversion.

To tell you the truth the thing that puts me off the Subaru engine is the cost and availability of spare parts. Also the scooby engine is a thirsty lump. Overall running costs will be lower with the Ford engine too.

Agreed the Zetec engine conversion is expensive though.

Bear in mind though that this price includes literally EVERYTHING you'll need including a rebuilt engine.

$7970 which at todays exchange rate is approx 4 grand. The zetec is a lovely engine though.

Hey, Blurb, you seen how easy the wiring is????

Wonder whether that conversion plate and engine mount etc would fit the Ford TDCI engine :) Plenty ponies available there, quite cheaply as well, quite a few 135 BHP diesels around from Ford in Focus, Mondeo etc
Keep it real.

I'd be surprised if it didnt as i wouldnt have thought Ford would have changed the box design between them. OK the ratios will be different but not the other bits.

DONT touch the ford tdi! youl never be away from ford having your injectors re-mapped. This can take over three hours inputing the 16 digit data from each injector via windows98 Urrrggg!

I must admit, I've been pretty interested in this conversion for my Syncro.
I've been in touch with Jim at Bostiq, and he reckons there will be kits available very soon - still approx $5000-6000 for the kit though. The biggest trouble is getting an instruction manual together.

This has been around before, but for those who haven't seen it and to wet your appetite - here's a supercharged Syncro Westy. Watch it take on the WRX half way through. LOL.....

Agreed. You just have to listen to the clatter of a TDCI transit in comparison to a TDI Transporter. The Transporter engine is much more refined and has a much nicer power band. Ive driven both and Im not too keen on the ford engines. They have good horsepower but they dont seem to put it out very well whatever it is about them.

Hear the debate but for ease of install, lightness, power to weight, and cheapness of replacement engines (quoted £350 for a warrantied low mileage from a specialist breakers) canot see why anyone would pursue Ford.

The cost of the Ford conversion is much more than the scoob and the difference woul pay fo so much fuel the economies of MPG seems to be negated.

IMHO, Not true, the SFC of the EJ22 compares well with many contemporary engines.

and as you can see, nice and flat across a wide revband, more so at higher power settings - useful with limited gearing and a heavy vehicle.

True, but the transit TDCI is a totally different animal to the Mondeo/Focus TDCI which is the joint Ford/PSA motor, have a blat in a 2.0 130bhp or the 2.2 150bhp, they are more than comparable to the VAG TDI motors.
