Starter motor refurb sought, help needed.

Post by normal rules »

Ok so I have removed starter motor from van, checked brushes, given the relevant parts a clean and inspected it. Put back on and still starts intermittently. Took off again, hot wired solenoid and works fine. Hot wired motor and it runs slowly. I have been quoted 100 quid plus vat for a recon unit and I have to give them the old one. New are just stupid money. Does anyone know an auto electrical out there who can diagnose and refurb worn starters. I live in east lincs.

You haven't been running the starter off the engine have you? Just that it reads like you have.
Have you taken off all the earth straps and cleaned them all up?
It would be easier if your starter motor threads were all together instead of four separate ones. :idea
